Studies have shown that there is a close link between phytohormones and the uptake, transport and distribution of mineral elements in plants. The effects of various plant hormones on the mineral ion transport system are not only highly tissue-specific, but there are also strong interactions between the hormones. For example, indoleacetic acid can promote the uptake of monovalent cations, such as K+, in certain plant tissue cells, and can increase the cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration, while promoting Ca2+ transport in plant tissue organs. Cytokinin promotes the uptake of water by plant cells, thus affecting the transportation and distribution of mineral nutrients in the plant. Gibberellin promotes the uptake and transport of selenite in soybean leaves, and also promotes the accumulation of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in soybean plants, increasing the phosphorus and potassium content within the stems and the potassium and calcium content within the leaves. Brassinolide can promote the absorption, transportation and distribution of phosphorus and potassium in plants, improve the efficiency of pesticide absorption and so on.

Plant growth regulators have the same or similar effects as plant hormones: in addition to promoting the absorption, transportation and distribution of mineral elements, they also have significant effects in helping crops to grow roots, strong, green and preventing premature aging and other physiological aspects, so as to improve the ability of crops to resist adversity and disease, and to reduce the input of medicine and fertilizer.
